     A new course, and tournament, were inaugurated early last December at the Garuga Golf Club in western Uganda. Stephen Asiimwe, CEO of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), promised support for the club and similar ventures in the golf-tourism industry.

     “As part of tourism product development, UTB is promoting golf as a tourism product across the country,” said Asiimwe, “and this will enhance the quality, [variety] and essence of Uganda as a tourism destination.”  According to the International Association of Golf Tour Operators, which control 85% of the world’s “golf holiday packages," the U.S. is still the fastest-growing destination for golf tour operators.
