A letter to the editor sent into the Chesterfield Observer presents an earnest plea for the use of more resources in preventing the spread of hydrilla. “Anyone who observes, as I have at close range, the tangled mass of greenery that hydrilla produces will understand that it ultimately will jeopardize other aquatic life, the quality of the water supply and the ability of the county to draw water out of the reservoir for use by its citizens,” writes Bert Browning. Prompted by recent discussions on public access to the reservoir, the letter highlights the need to protect the reservoir from hydrilla, or, as Bert wrote, “ No one will be clamoring for access to it [when hydrilla grows unchecked].”
