Hydrilla did pretty well on the Alabama side of Lake Oliver this summer, and Georgia Power, the lake’s steward, is trying to spread information and advice to the public on how to combat this successful invasive. “ We see [outreach] as an additional venue not only to improve our lakes, but to improve communication with people out there,” said Dawson Ingram, lakes resources manager for the company.

What can the public do now? While they ask volunteers not to pull the plants (asexual, the fragments root and form new plants), locals can apply for permits for herbicide treatment; officials also recommend that boaters clean, drain and dry all boats and boating equipment (including trailers) after use.
